What is Distance Learning?

April 16th, 2008

Distance learning is a non-traditional educational process which takes place outside a classroom. Classes are taken by students in their own places using a variety of ways, from usual paper and pen correspondence to lessons delivered by computer or by videos.

Individual lectures can take from a few hours to one usual 12-15 week semester to full one.

Bachelor degree programs demand students to complete almost 120 credits worth and are usually suggested at four-year universities and colleges. Bachelor degrees are commonly finished in four years but may take almost six years by the distance learning method.

Master’s degree programs demand students to finish 30-35 credits and are usually finished in 18 months to two years by part time distance learning. Each university is varied in the ways they charge for distance learning. Some institutions have fix prices per semester or per credit hour, others can have a base fee and specific handling fees that may or rental charges, course transfers, etc.

Every university establishes its own admission procedures and demands. You should apply to the Office for Distance Learning at the universities you are taking into account to find an application form and information
