And this is not the only tradition that makes American system of public universities different from those of the other countries. The thing is that even though these institutions are supported by the state, students anyway have to partially pay tuition and fees, and the prices are increasing each year. It is a normal thing when a student needs to borrow money to pay for his or her college.

Speaking of all U.S. universities, large public ones often enroll the largest number of international students and staff. For example in the University of Minnesota over 4,500 international students and scholars study are there.
